About Emily

Writing biographies is always a strange process. What does the reader want to know and what should I share? So here are a few random tidbits about me.

  1. I am married and I have a beautiful daughter with my husband.
  2. I do not own a television and I am not educated on current pop culture.
  3. I have degrees in Psychology (BA), Education (MS), and Physics (BS). I have completed a PhD in Experimental Dark Matter Physics.
  4. I am an expert in the propagation of scintillation light through argon in different states of matter. This is what being an expert is like.
  5. I have difficulties answering the question "Where are you from?" and the most honest answer is that I am not from anywhere. I have spent my mortal existence wandering this planet and I do not call any location home.
  6. I love to participate in endurance athletic events.
  7. I still listen to a lot of the same music I listened to in high school.
  8. I write in more than one blog.
  9. My husband is a better dresser than I am.
  10. I have been writing poetry since I was six.
  11. I love dissecting political arguments and trying understand every side of an argument. As this makes me quite unpopular, I only have these conversations with people who share this interest.
  12. I prefer traditional liturgy and music in church settings.
  13. I was born with extra teeth.
  14. I was car-free for four years and I would recommend the experience to anyone.
  15. Though I am no longer in my early twenties, I still sport a few body piercings. I have had them too long to give them up and I would argue that being in physics gives you a little room to be eccentric.
  16. My favorite bike that I own is my 2012 Kona Jake.
  17. I would rather be too warm than too cold.
  18. My love eating drives my love of an edurance sport.
  19. I want to participate in an IronMan Triathlon at some point in my life.
  20. I try to live each day in the freedom of serving God. At times it is a slow process, but I have found that life is more joyful and the plentiful agonies of life are more manageable with God.
