Psalm 4[a]
For the director of music. With stringed instruments. A psalm of David.
1 Answer me when I call to you,
my righteous God.
Give me relief from my distress;
have mercy on me and hear my prayer.
my righteous God.
Give me relief from my distress;
have mercy on me and hear my prayer.
4 Tremble and[d] do not sin;
when you are on your beds,
search your hearts and be silent.
5 Offer the sacrifices of the righteous
and trust in the Lord.
when you are on your beds,
search your hearts and be silent.
5 Offer the sacrifices of the righteous
and trust in the Lord.
6 Many, Lord, are asking, “Who will bring us prosperity?”
Let the light of your face shine on us.
7 Fill my heart with joy
when their grain and new wine abound.
Let the light of your face shine on us.
7 Fill my heart with joy
when their grain and new wine abound.
8 In peace I will lie down and sleep,
for you alone, Lord,
make me dwell in safety.
for you alone, Lord,
make me dwell in safety.
Your name, I whisper
Stillness in the dark, I listen
I am weary, my legs shake from exhaustion
Do You hear me? Can You give me rest?
A stench assaults my nostrils, evil is afoot
They love a fantasy, they hide from truth
God set His own apart, am I among them?
God, are you listening? I am calling
His name is Holy, Fear is within my heart
I lay my beaten body in my sheets,
my heart cries for You at night
I cling to foolish dreams
My hope has long since faded
What will Your blessing look like God?
Will I recognise Your peace if You bring it?
My soul aches and throbs
Heal me, heal me, heal me
I trust tomorrow I will arise
God are you there?
Protect me though the wicked nights
